False starts

I gave been itching to make #useableart lately. Make 'things' instead of pictures of things.

So I dug out some of mt stashed #linenburlap, #fabricstrips and a #hook .

You can see one of my oldies on the left. Unfortunately after I got the border done my hands screamed all night long. I was in so much pain I had to get up twice in the night to take Tylenol. Arthritis is not fun people.

Maybe a more open weave burlap would've been better. My strips, although a thin material, were cut rather on the wide side. Maybe it even had something to do with the fact that I decided not to use a frame this time. I hate all the gear. Otherwise I would be weaving. But as a result I'm terrified pick it up again today. Maybe I'll even try more yarn like I did in the one you see on the left-hand side of the picture from 2007.

I also scrapped my blue pandula. The #color pencils just would not cooperate on top of the background.  They just wouldn't stick to the paper.

I'm not sure if it was because I've painted on the paper first or if it was because it was just crappy paper to begin with. Another false start. I seem to be on a roll LOL. But I'm not giving up so stay tuned.

Today's work

The paper or maybe the background paint is making the #colorpencil act weird. 😖

Progress. #blue and who knows maybe #green. #blendind and blending and blending.

So here is my 'Pandula'. You may ask "what is a Pandula?" As defined in a rug hooking magazine article I read long ago...A Pandula is a flower which grows only in the imagination.

Years ago when I first decided to have an Internet presence I called myself Pandula Arts Creations, except I did not have the magazine in front of me at the time and I miss spelled it. It is actually supposed to be spelled PADULA. When I realized what I had done I decided just to leave it. Anyway here is my version on my own handmade #graytonepaper on #strathmorewatercolorpaper painted with #bombayink with the design #inked in #black #bicballpointpen ready to go.

Experimenting and inspired!

I saw the pic on the top half of the picture below a couple of days ago somewhere and saved it for inspiration. The man's signature that is on the bottom of it is Ed Rangel F.

So yesterday I drew my own version and truied to watercolor paint it on #strathmorewatercolorpaper . Once before I bought Strathmore watercolor paper and returned it because I didn't like it, (it was like that was too much sizing on it acted like Jell-O on top of the paper and took forever to dry ) and the experience was no different this time.

I've become spoiled to #archeswatercolorpaper especially since it's #100%cottonrag . The paints act so much nicer and the paper doesn't wear out from manipulation, nor does it buckle as much as wood pulp paper does. But I digress...

As many of you may have noticed I am in love with toned paper for using my #prismacolor #pencils on lately. So after my failed painting I decided to use the Strathmore watercolor paper to color pencil on. In making that decision I also decided I also wanted to try to make my own #graytonepaper . So I got out the #bombayink and gave it a whirl.  I find that when I use inks I can draw on top of it and if I have to erase something he does not erase my background as easily as it would with watercolor.  I also used an #irridescent additive.

OMGoodness it turned out beautiful so stay tuned for pictures because I'm going to try and do another one of these #abstract #flowers using #colorpencil this time.

My version was so awful I did not even finish it. I think part of the problem was I used to many colors! I need to use some more limited palette.

Here is a shot of the Gray paper I painted. I really wish you could see how beautiful the iridescence is on it.

Stay tuned there will be another abstract coming down the pike soon.

Signing off for now…

TADA!!!

I am so proud! I've done several these so I'll post those at the end of this post.

I saw a tutorial on YouTube by Tiffany Lovering there is a picture below.

Believe it or not I was trying to make it look like hers. But this happened instead.

I started coloring it with my #prisma #colorpencils anyway. I also tweaked the top a little bit at this point.

I'm still not great with highlights and shading so they always come out very #stylized.

Then the stem.

I love how the gray paper makes the colors pop!

Shading for even more depth.

And some oldies.

A progress shot!

Last one for tonight.

It's hard to create a blog via iPhone!

So what I'm hoping to do is be able to do my posting here and then share to Facebook in a more detailed fashion than some of the other social media's will allow. But you can find me on instagram as Marshaknoxartexpression (Let's hope that link works because I'm learning LOL.)  And of course you can also find me on Facebook as Marshaknoxartexpression also!  Let's hope I got that one right also. In the meanwhile don't forget to look around if I didn't get it right.  EDIT:  I DID NOT GET THE LINKS TO WORK SO I WILL HAVE TO WORK THAT OUT 😞.

If you don't know anything about me let me introduce, myself my name is Marsha and I am a self-taught artist born and raised in Beautiful, and HOT!, St. Augustine, FL. I've never had a single art class. Thank goodness for the Internet and a good library.

I dabble in quite a number of things… At one time all I did was textile weaving and then I branched off into Pineneedle basket weaving. I'm kind of known for those baskets in my neck of the woods. I do sell them on my Facebook page but I really don't do as many of those anymore.  Mostly commissions. You can choose what kind of wood is used, you can choose what kind of thread colors are used and whatever size you like for the money you wish to spend. Here's a picture of one of them with an Olive wood focal. I have a store on my Facebook page if you're interested in purchasing one. There are some listed. Actually right this minute that's all that's listed I intend to use the blog for my other art sales.

This will be my personal blog also so you'll find other information too, even some of my own personal views. Maybe even some educational information here and there. As I said I want this to be my own private place to share my thoughts and Art.

I have branched out a lot over the years.  I've done things like micro macrame, bead work minimally, knitting, crocheting, (but I don't do much of either one anymore), but mostly these days I love to draw and I have also picked up some watercolor, acrylic painting, and color pencil. The drawings and paintings or where my heart is this days. I love abstract art you'll see a lot of that here.

All of my art is for sale and you can always contact me at marshaknoxstsugfl@yahoo.com. And of course through Facebook and Instagram as mentioned before.  I'm not hard to find if you look around and I do have multiple email addresses.

I have a little dog name Wiggles that is part pug, part Chihuahua, and part weenie dog. I Call her my my chugeenie!  Here's a picture of her, you will learn to love her. She is the best art helper ever.

That kind of sums it up for the moment except that I'd like to put up a few pictures.  Feel free to let me know how you feel about what you see here.

An abstract watercolor peacock !

Here is a colorpencil bird of paradise.

And another abstract.

This is a stylized Lotus done with acrylic paint and teenie weenie brushes on plywood.

I will probably set up a schedule for the regular posting so that you know when they're coming soon. Right now I'm still trying to figure out how to do all of this without a desktop computer. Things are a lot different on an iPhone let me tell you.

So keep watching because I will keep posting and soon I will get better at this and be on a schedule of some sort.

Marsha and Wiggles signing off for now.

New blog

This is a test to see if I can post from my phone.
This is a shot of my current project.

A few adjustments and it begins!

I have included a picture from the tutorial I followed in this post.

I am trying my hand at #drawing A #stylized #rose #flower today. #graytonepaper with #black #ballpointpen using a #youtube #video by #tiffanylovering.

Mine does't look as much like hers as I might like, but I decided to continue on and #makeitmyown !

Going to use #prismacolor #pencil on this #toned #cansonpaper .
